Url2pin.it :: Another Pinteresting Idea

Sometimes when you are pinning to remind you about a whole website or page of a website, a problem arises. None of the graphics to choose from are appropriate.

What to do?

Well as I mentioned in a previous article, you can create a text image with Pin A Quote. But now you can also pin a graphic of the entire website. Url2pin.it

I tried it on a variety of my sites:
  • Yes HTML site I created in Dreamweaver with some hardcoding
  • Yes Blogger site
  • No :( Website based on WordPress Template. Hmmm... I wonder why. I'll look into that and get back to you.

But then I tried it on my pals' blog also created with WordPress and it worked...

For someone who enjoys seeing why a website works graphically as well as SEO, there is a great side benefit to Url2pin.it. After you type on the URL you want to pin, it also shows you a sample of all the colors used on the website. Yes, I know... there are other tools that do this. But this one shows all of the colors without having to use an eyedropper, type in code, etc.

This is not a tool that I will use THAT often, but it's nice to know it's there.

Pin A Quote

One of the most popular thing to do on Pinterest is to share quotes. Web strategist Adam Rotman understands this and so he built a free and easy tool called "Pin A Quote." It allows you to transform a simple phrase on a web page into a Pinterest graphic, at the same time capturing the URL of where you originally got the quote.

All you have to do is go to the PinAQuote.com website and drag the bookmarklet to your bookmark bar and start pinning quotes.

Here's how to use it...

If you want a bit more control of how the graphic looks like, you could splurge for the Pin A Quote PRO version. It'll set you back $1.99, and although I'm all about the "free", I think you can afford it.

Not just for quotes

1. Lots of cool articles you want to bookmark may not have any suitable graphics to pin... so create one, just like I did for this article.

2. If you want to create a totally unique quote that ISN'T online, just select the "Pin A Quote" bookmarklet and type it in manually. Note that the default URL for this graphic will be "pinaquote.com." Just change it once it's pinned (and before you post it on Facebook or Twitter).

Although I have happily added "Pin A Quote" to my social media arsenal, it isn't perfect. As a graphic artist, I would love to have more control over the size and positioning of the quote and attribution, and even the chance to add a background graphic... maybe we can look forward to that in a future Pin A Quote SUPERPRO :)

Pinterest for the Non-Profit Organization

Many articles have been written about using Pinterest for marketing companies and brands. But not much has been written regarding using the social media platform for charities and other non-profits.

That is why I was delighted to come across the following article written by Cody Damon on Social Media Today. Nonprofit Marketing: Do You Have 'Pinterest'ing Content?

About Heidi

Hi there.

My name is Heidi Heleniak and I'm "Being Social."

Although I don't feel like an old pro... I actually have been involved with the internet, SEO, and social media for over a decade, using these skills for both B2B and B2C companies.

Participating in the first generation of professional forums, listening to the sound of dial-up modems, setting up AOL Messenger for internal corporate communication, and getting a very nice pen from GoTo.com as a "Thank You" for being one of their favorite customers. I know... I'm ancient, and have the Men At Work albums to prove it :)

But the ever-changing cyber world forces you to stay up on things. If you don't, good luck on keeping your customers.

This is where I step in and let you know how to keep your old customers and expand awareness of your goods and services to new people. There are simple things you can do: Simple SEO* on your website, claim your store or corporations profiles on various search websites, participate in social media platforms like Twitter, Pinterest, YouTube, and of course, that ol' chestnut: Facebook.

(Or you can find someone to do it for you... Someone like me!).
